Rutgers iTunesU

Rutgers is currently preparing a public iTunesU site. We expect it to be available Sept 2007. At that point this web site will have information about the contents of the site. itunes.rutgers.edu will be widely publicized.

Here is the link to the Rutgers public section of iTunes. Clicking it should start the iTunes application on your computer, and point it to the Rutgers site. This page will have information on how to download and install iTunes.

About iTunesU

iTunesU is a service from Apple, designed to host multimedia content such as audio and video, particularly content intended for use as podcasts. Apple makes available disk space and some tools to upload and manage content. The content is available through the iTunes store in a special section.

Many universities are using iTunesU as a way to provide information about the universities their activities. For examples, see itunes.berkeley.edu or itunes.stanford.edu.

At Rutgers, we expect iTunesU to be used in several different ways:

While all of these things are possible, we expect the emphasis to be on the public site. There are other ways to handle podcasting for specific communities. In particular, Sakai can host podcasting directly on Sakai.

WARNING: Apple does not back up iTunesU, nor do they provide tools for us to do so. It is important for you to maintain copies of all material that you upload to Apple.

See sites at other institutions, e.g. the Berkeley and Stanford sites just mentioned, to see the kinds of material that institutions typically put on their public sites. It is normally a mix of

If you have material that you would consider putting on the public site, please contact Matt Weismantel, matt.weismantel@rutgers.edu. If you are interested in a non-public area, whether through Sakai or in some other context, please contact sakai@rutgers.edu
